Traditional tales retold

I tell stories to entertain, inspire and challenge. I specialise in stories from Celtic and Norse traditions, especially where the two meet, such as my homeland of Shetland. My repertoire includes myths, legends, sagas, folk and fairy tales; from vast epics telling of wars between gods and men, to more intimate tales of individual relationships and difficult choices. Often focussing on themes of environmental and social justice, I love exploring what they show us about the world we live in and our relationship with others.

I tell stories in all sorts of settings from schools, museums and libraries to community events, private functions and festivals. I can deliver set performance pieces, drop-in style sessions and story walks, either as an individual attraction or part of a wider programme of events. I am very flexible and can adapt my performance style and content to fit the setting and audience. My storytelling is suitable for everyone from early years to the elderly, and I am especially adept at storytelling for older children and adults.

What people say about my storytelling:

Daniel Allison, House of Legends:

“Kirsten has a relaxed yet poised style which hooks her listeners like a raven’s talons. Kirsten loves sweeping Norse tales, the ones full of enchantments, sly trickery and skies of fire. Yet she is adept at comedic and melancholic turns too, so that whatever she is serving up, I will always be waiting with eager eyes and ears. Do yourself a favour and join me.”

Meghan, Community Engagement Officer at Whitmuir Farm:

“Kirsten's magical storytelling captivates audiences of all ages, seamlessly bringing stories to life and sparking excitement in young and old minds alike.”

Laura Sampson, audience member:

"Kirsten’s performances are immersive and emotional, but so generous and well-judged that I always feel safe to let my imagination run freely after her words. Her delight in the stories she chooses to tell is infectious, fed by the deep connection she fosters with her subject matter. And wait till you hear her sing!"
